Everything you wanted to know about Heston Blumenthal’s “Hidden Orange” Christmas pudding
If you were buying a Heston Blumenthal Christmas pudding at his restaurant The Fat Duck, you’d expect it to be pretty expensive.
And you’d probably think it would be far cheaper if you could pick one up on eBay which had originally been sold in Waitrose for £13.99… but you’d be wrong.
The Hidden Orange Christmas puds are currently changing hands on the internet auction site for vast amounts, some have already sold for more than £120.
This has prompted other scrooges (who are obviously struggling to find their Christmas spirit) to list their puddings for as much a £350 each.
Heston Blumenthal’s “Hidden Orange” Christmas pudding, created specially for Waitrose stores has received a huge amount of media attention since its launch in November 2010.
What’s so special? From the outside, it looks like a normal Christmas pudding, packed with festive spices and dark fruit. But when it is cut, it reveals a whole Valencian candied orange in the centre. The citrussy flavour of the orange then permeates through to the rest of the pudding, giving it an unusual, fragrant twist.
The Christmas pudding has been on sale in Waitrose supermarkets for £13.99. As interest increased, the pudding quickly sold out, leaving many customers disappointed.
