The saftest cars of 2011 by Forbes

To compile the list of the safest cars this year, they started with all vehicles chosen by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety as “Top Safety Picks.” They then excluded all crossovers, SUVs and pick-up trucks from this list to keep it strictly car-based and extracted all models that did not receive perfect scores of “good” in all front-, side-, rear-crash and rollover tests. Winners must also have had available electronic stability control, which IIHS says significantly reduces crash risk. The cars still standing after all of that are the winners. They are listed in alphabetical order.

BMW 5-Series
Buick LaCrosse
Cadillac CTS Sedan
Chevrolet Cruze
Lincoln MKS
Mercedes C Class
Mercedes E Class Sedan
Subaru Legacy
Subaru Outback
