L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon in NYC to close on June 30

L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, the only New York City restaurant in the world’s most Michelin-starred chef’s portfolio, is closing its doors at the end of the month.

The decision to close the restaurant was “amicable” between the restaurant and The Four Seasons Hotel on East 57th Street, where the restaurant is located, according to Florence Fabricant at The New York Times.

L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, a Michelin two-star rated restaurant located off the hotel’s main lobby, a restaurant so exclusive it requires reservations at least 30 days in advance. Robuchon opened the restaurant in September 2006.

The announcement did not go into detail on why this partnership is ending.

According to the announcement, the split will allow Four Seasons and Robuchon “to focus on new business ventures” while Robuchon “will move forward to new high profile projects to be announced in the next few months.”

Robuchon operates eight other Atelier restaurants around the globe, in locations like Las Vegas, London, and Paris. Robuchon’s Paris location was ranked #12 on “The World’s 50 Best” restaurant rankings list in Restaurants magazine. He plans to open three more Ateliers in Beirut, Mumbai and Bangkok in 2013.

Hotel manager Christoph Schmidinger said in the announcement that the hotel is looking for a “new and exciting venue” to take L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon’s place. Read the full announcement here.
