Finland’s Snow Castle freezes time by offering unique ice-xperience
If chilly weather is what enthuses you the most, then the Snow Castle in Finland easily qualifies as your summer getaway as it offers a unique experience of staying at a hotel and dining in a restaurant completely made of snow. As for a peep into the history, the Snow Castle Restaurant built in 1996 in the city of Kemi and also bagged a Guinness World Records for being the first snow castle with the longest snow walls. Also known to be the biggest snow fort in the world, Snow Castle offers all the luxuries that a regular hotel would, but at the circumstances of a 5˚ Celcius temperature. This pretty much means that you’d have to pile on all your winter clothing at once to stay or dine at this special hotel and restaurant!
If you’d fancy an extended stay in the chilly atmosphere, then the SnowHotel is the right place to be as it has 18 rooms for doubles/singles and two group rooms with five beds as well as a Honeymoon Suite, all of which are made of snow! There is a SnowChapel too with100 seats that has seen numerous weddings of couples.
Menu items at the Snow Castle restaurant include local fish like salmon and perch served with vegetables. You will also find an array of soups and even lamb on the menu.
The Snow Castle is rebuilt every year and this year’s structure is going to reopen on 26th of January, 2013. Reservations to dine in the Snow Castle Restaurant must be made in advance.
