XX Vinitaly International Wine Competition – enrolments now open
Wine samples to be assessed by the jury made up of internationally renowned journalists and many of the most qualified oenologists in the world must arrive by 20 October.
Entries are open from early September to 20 October for the Vinitaly International Wine Competition (www.vinitaly.it), scheduled 12-16 November in Verona.
Now at its XX edition, the most important, popular and selective wine competition in the world equally boasts many innovations.
The first, already announced last March, concerns the change of date: from an event held immediately prior to Vinitaly itself, the competition has been moved to November to ensure even better visibility for the competition and offer companies winning medals a boarder promotional showcase with a view to the Spring appointment with Vinitaly (scheduled 7-10 April 2013).
To this end, medal winners (Grand Gold Medal, Gold Medal, Silver Medal and Bronze Medal) will be able to request, within 30 days of receiving notification of the assignment of an Award, authorisation to print a number of labels or stickers with the wording “International Wine Competition 2012” equal to the number of bottles of wine taking awards. Award-winning wines, moreover, will be included in a series of promotional activities throughout 2013.
Another innovation concerns the Special “Denomination of Origin” Award, which will be made to the wine of every Italian denomination of origin achieving the best score, provided that it is higher than 82/100 and provided that at least 40 samples of every denomination of origin were entered for the competition.
The competition will involve some of the most important international journalists in the sector, at work in the tasting panels alongside some of the most qualified international and Italian oenologists, for a total of at least 105 jury members – as for the 2011 edition when 3,720 samples by 1,000 companies from 30 countries were assessed.
Organised by VeronaFiere – Vinitaly, the International Wine Competition is held in collaboration with Assoenologi and with the patronage of the Ministry for Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, the Ministry for Economic Development, OIV and the Union Internationale des Oenologues.
